Their arrival marks another step in Raleigh Orthopaedic’s continued growth and commitment to expanding access to highly specialized orthopedic care for patients throughout the Triangle.

Dr. Arney and Dr. Mika bring advanced fellowship training in their respective subspecialties, along with a strong commitment to helping patients get back to the activities and lifestyles they enjoy.
Meet Dr. Monica Arney, Sports Medicine
Dr. Monica Arney is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. She completed her orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Virginia before completing a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado.
Dr. Arney brings a strong background in sports medicine, research, and athletics to Raleigh Orthopaedic. During her training, she served as a team resident physician for Monticello High School football and was a Division I student-athlete at Michigan State University, where she competed on the women’s rowing team and served as team captain.
Dr. Arney will begin seeing patients in early September 2026 at the following Raleigh Orthopaedic locations:

- Holly Springs
- West Cary – Panther Creek
Meet Dr. Alek Mika, Adult Reconstruction & Total Joint Replacement
Dr. Alek Mika is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction and total joint replacement, with a focus on hip and knee conditions.
Dr. Mika completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center before completing an adult lower extremity reconstruction fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. His extensive research experience has focused on hip and knee replacement, implant alignment and fixation, surgical techniques, and improving outcomes following total joint surgery.
An athlete himself, Dr. Mika competed in collegiate lacrosse at Brigham Young University and was part of the 2011 national championship team. His background in athletics has helped shape his appreciation for the importance of mobility and helping patients return to the activities they enjoy.
Dr. Mika will begin seeing patients in early September 2026 at:
