Orthotic and Pedorthic Services

The Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic Orthotic and Pedorthics department is staffed by a certified fitter of orthotics and Pedorthist. A certified fitter is a healthcare professional that specializes in planning, making, and fitting orthopedic braces and similar devices such as surgical supports and corrective shoes. A pedorthist is a healthcare professional trained in the manufacturing, fitting, and modification of foot appliances and footwear to alleviate painful or debilitating conditions.

Benefits of Getting Orthotics

Most people have experienced wearing replacement insoles in their shoes. Because orthotics are custom-made by healthcare professionals, they are tailored specifically to your foot structure and medical needs. Custom orthotics benefits include:

  • Providing correct support to your foot’s arch for stability
  • Protect your joints from daily wear and tear
  • Improve your athletic performance due to better balance, shock absorption, motion control, and reduced fatigue
  • Reduce the likelihood of injuries and stress fractures
  • Improve your body’s alignment, leading to a potential reduction of knee or back discomfort
