About the ROC Gives Back Initiative

For more than 100 years, Raleigh Orthopaedic has remained committed to supporting the well-being of the communities we serve. Our ROC Gives Back initiative is one of the ways we continue that mission. Each year, we select one or two community-focused causes and create volunteer opportunities for our staff to get involved. This team-based approach allows us to combine our time, resources, and energy to make a meaningful impact.

In past years, ROC Gives Back has included efforts such as packing lunches for Table NC and making no-sew blankets for children assisted by Project Linus. These hands-on activities allow our staff to contribute directly to local families in need.

Why We Selected The Salvation Army of Wake County

This year, we were excited to support The Salvation Army of Wake County through a company-wide and public winter coat drive. Their longstanding dedication to serving families in need made them an ideal partner. When we learned about their annual coat drive, we saw a great opportunity to join an existing effort that makes an immediate and local impact. Teaming up allowed us to help ensure that warm coats reached individuals and families who needed them most this winter.

How the Coat Drive Became Meaningful to Our Team

With many families currently struggling to meet basic needs, our staff wanted to give back in a way that provided direct and immediate help. Health and wellness extend beyond medical care, and having essentials like a warm, well-fitting coat can play a significant role in someone’s comfort and safety during colder months. Participating in this coat drive allowed our team to come together and support families experiencing hardship in a practical and heartfelt way.

Fifteen Raleigh Orthopaedic team members volunteered to help organize, sort, and prepare the donated coats through our ROC Gives Back event.

Adding a Personal Touch with “A Note in the Pocket”

To make the experience even more meaningful, our team added handwritten notes to the pockets of 100 new children’s coats. These small, lunchbox-style messages were created to bring a smile to each child’s face when they reached into their coat pocket for the first time. Warmth comes in many forms, and our hope was that these simple messages would offer comfort, encouragement, and joy to children and families navigating difficult times.

Giving Back Throughout the Year

In addition to our annual ROC Gives Back volunteer events, Raleigh Orthopaedic also supports ongoing community efforts through a monthly donation initiative led by our HR team. Each month highlights a different nonprofit, with needs ranging from physical items like canned food to monetary donations, which staff can contribute directly from their paycheck if they choose. As a thank you for participating, team members receive a “jeans day,” giving them the chance to wear jeans to work for one day.
