Carolina Hurricanes Win the Stanley Cup for the First Time Since 2006
Twenty years after raising hockey’s most coveted trophy, the Carolina Hurricanes are once again Stanley Cup Champions.
The Hurricanes defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final to secure the franchise’s second Stanley Cup Championship and cap off one of the most dominant playoff runs in modern NHL history. Carolina finished the postseason with an impressive 16-3 record, the fewest losses by a Stanley Cup winner in nearly four decades. Captain Jordan Staal earned the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP, while Head Coach Rod Brind’Amour added another chapter to his legendary Hurricanes legacy—winning the Stanley Cup as both a team captain and head coach.
For Hurricanes fans across North Carolina, the championship is the culmination of years of dedication, resilience, and belief. For Raleigh Orthopaedic, it is also an opportunity to celebrate the athletes, coaches, medical staff, and support teams who worked tirelessly behind the scenes throughout the season.
The Demands of an NHL Season
Winning a Stanley Cup requires far more than talent alone.
An NHL season spans more than eight months and includes 82 regular season games, extensive travel, intense physical demands, and the wear and tear that comes from competing at the highest level of professional hockey. Every shift, every collision, and every blocked shot places extraordinary stress on the body.
Keeping players healthy enough to perform throughout a championship season requires a coordinated effort between athletes, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning specialists, physical therapists, and sports medicine physicians.
As the Official Team Physicians of the Carolina Hurricanes, Raleigh Orthopaedic is proud to play a role in that effort.
Supporting the Hurricanes All Season Long
Throughout the 2025-26 season and Stanley Cup Playoff run, Raleigh Orthopaedic sports medicine physicians Dr. Barker and Dr. Isbell provided medical coverage for Hurricanes games, helping evaluate injuries, manage player health, and support the team throughout one of the most successful seasons in franchise history.
Their commitment extends far beyond game nights.
Professional sports medicine often means long hours, extensive preparation, travel commitments, and being ready to respond at a moment’s notice. Whether covering games, consulting with team personnel, evaluating injuries, or helping athletes safely return to play, sports medicine physicians are an integral part of a championship organization.
While fans see the action on the ice, there is an entire team working behind the scenes to help athletes stay healthy, recover quickly, and perform at their highest level.
For Raleigh Orthopaedic, serving as Team Physicians for the Carolina Hurricanes reflects the same commitment we bring to every patient we treat—from professional athletes to weekend warriors and active families across the Triangle.
Sports Medicine Expertise at Every Level
While few athletes will ever compete for the Stanley Cup, the principles of sports medicine remain the same.
Whether treating a professional hockey player, a high school athlete recovering from an ACL injury, or an adult trying to return to an active lifestyle, the goal is always to help patients move better, recover safely, and return to the activities they love.
At Raleigh Orthopaedic, our sports medicine team specializes in diagnosing, treating, and preventing injuries affecting athletes and active individuals of all ages. From advanced orthopedic care and injury prevention to rehabilitation and return-to-play guidance, our physicians help patients achieve their goals both on and off the field.
Celebrating a Historic Moment for Hockey in North Carolina
The Hurricanes’ Stanley Cup victory is more than a championship—it is another milestone in the continued growth of hockey across North Carolina.
What began with the franchise’s first Stanley Cup in 2006 has evolved into one of the NHL’s most passionate fan bases and one of the league’s premier organizations. This championship serves as a reminder of how far hockey has come in our state and the impact the Hurricanes continue to have on athletes and fans throughout the region.
As Team Physicians for the Carolina Hurricanes, Raleigh Orthopaedic is honored to support this organization and proud to celebrate alongside the players, coaches, staff, and fans who made this unforgettable season possible.
Congratulations to the Carolina Hurricanes on bringing the Stanley Cup back to North Carolina!!!
