Meet Dr. Pompeu – Orthopedic Neck and Back Specialist in NC

Dr. Yuri Pompeu is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in spine surgery.

Born and raised in Brazil, Dr. Pompeu began his academic journey at Murray State, where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and completed 4 years in the Division 1 Tennis team. He then earned a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Florida where he worked on enzyme structure and immunology. Following this, Dr. Pompeu attended Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine.

Dr. Pompeu completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the renowned Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY, from 2018 to 2023. He then pursued a spine surgery fellowship at Norton Leatherman Spine in Louisville, KY, from 2023 to 2024, further honing his expertise in spine surgery under the guidance of world-renowned mentors.

Dr. Pompeu specializes in the treatment of large-breadth spine conditions in the cervical thoracic and lumbar spine. As treatment options for spine ailments can be quite complex, his philosophy is to educate patients and to promote a shared decision-making process that may bring the best possible outcome to his patients.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Pompeu has contributed to the medical field through his research and publications. He also is passionate about bringing quality care to the underserved and has participated in mission trips abroad in his native country, Brazil. He has authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed articles and is actively involved in professional organizations.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Pompeu enjoys outdoor activities such as tennis, golf, soccer and spending time with his wife, son, and close friends.
