Meet Dr. Cadet – Sports Medicine Specialist in NC

Edwin R. Cadet, M.D. is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic (ROC). He is currently an adjunct assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of North Carolina (UNC) and is the site director for the ROC-UNC Sports Medicine Fellowship. He is a team physician for the NC State University Wolfpack, Shaw University Bears, and South Garner High School Titans.  He is absolutely dedicated to providing the highest level of compassionate and outstanding care to his patients.

Prior to joining Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic, Dr. Cadet served as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery at Columbia University in NYC.  In 2013, Dr. Cadet was recognized by the New York Times Magazine as one of its Super Doctors® New York Rising Stars.

Dr. Cadet completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at The New York Orthopaedic Hospital at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. He served as an administrative chief resident in 2008. He received several awards for his outstanding clinical work, including, the Harrison Mclaughlin Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Trauma, twice, and the Alexander Garcia Senior Resident Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Surgery. 

In 2009, Dr. Cadet completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery, which U.S. News and Reports frequently ranks as the #1 Orthopaedic Hospital in the country.  Dr. Cadet assisted with the medical care for professional and NCAA Division I collegiate teams during his fellowship, including the New York Knicks and Red Storm of St. John’s University.

Dr. Cadet specializes in minimally-invasive and open techniques to address disorders affecting the knee, shoulder, elbow and hip.  This includes anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, meniscus repairs, cartilage restoration, rotator cuff surgery, shoulder instability, shoulder fractures, “Tommy John” surgery, anatomic and reverse shoulder replacement, and hip arthroscopy for management of labral tears and femoroacetabular impingement.

Dr. Cadet has spoken nationally and internationally on a wide spectrum of shoulder, knee, and hip topics. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. He has co-edited a book on shoulder and elbow trauma and has authored several publications in many of the leading journals in orthopedic surgery. He is a member of the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Society, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).

Dr. Cadet attended Brown University in Providence, RI for both his undergraduate and medical school studies.  He was an NCAA Division I collegiate track and field athlete, specializing in the 400M hurdles.
