Edwin R. Cadet, MD of Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic has co-authored an article regarding return to play and in-game performance statistics among pitchers following ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction, commonly referred to as “Tommy John” surgery.  Dr. Cadet co-authored this work with the sports medicine division at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. It was published in the October 2018 issue of the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

I am honored to have played a part in this publication that gives us useful insight on the rates of return to play and performance following Tommy John surgery. This information is very important in helping surgeons counsel athletes on performance expectations following Tommy John surgery.” -said Dr. Edwin R. Cadet, one of the renowned elbow surgeons of Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic, whose publications and work change the face of today’s medicine every day.

According to the article, the ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction (UCLR) has revolutionized the treatment of this injury, allowing many pitchers to return to play. The article concludes that, thanks to UCLR, there is a high rate of return to pitching after performing this method of reconstruction.
