Proud Sponsor of NC State Athletics

Whether it’s basketball, cross country, volleyball or soccer NC State University is ready to play. NC States has 18 intercollegiate teams and all but one competes in the Big East conference. Additionally, they have a variety of intramural and club sports and plenty of opportunity to stay involved with athletics.

Because of the wide variety of sports and the number of participants involved, injuries are inevitable. This is why NC State University has Dr. Robert Wyker, Dr. David Boone, Dr. Matthew Boes, Dr. Joseph Barker, and Dr. Edwin Cadet, Raleigh Orthopaedic sports medicine specialists on the sidelines and ready to treat them when they need it most.

The role of the team physician

Dr. Wyker, Dr. Boone, Dr. Boes, Dr. Barker and Dr. Cadet all evaluate players during the week and are on the sidelines during some games to take care of injuries. During the game, they evaluate players who may have sustained injuries to determine whether they can safely get back in the action.

Post-game, Dr. Wyker, Dr. Boone, Dr. Boes, Dr. Barker and Dr. Cadet may provide further evaluations to help plan the players’ treatments and rehabilitation for the week. They also take care of necessary surgeries or referring players to other Raleigh Orthopaedic physicians as needed.

“Working with student athletes who have been injured is a rewarding experience because of their determination to return to a sport they have so much passion for,” said Dr. Boes. “A lot of NC State athletes have a lot on their plate with class and their sport commitment; however, they never stop working hard and I appreciate that perseverance in my patients which benefits them in the classroom, the playing field or court, and their lives after sports.”
