Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic Introduces A New Physician – Dr. Edward W. Jernigan III

Dr. Jernigan is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in conditions affecting the hand, wrist and elbow. His clinical interests include hand, forearm, and elbow fractures, as well as soft tissue trauma, including tendon and neurovascular injuries, inflammatory and osteoarthritis, compression neuropathies, wrist disorders, elbow instability, elbow arthroplasty, and the management of post-amputation neuromas.  

Dr. Jernigan attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for his undergraduate degree, where he received the Merck Index Award. He then attended the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, where he was selected for the Howard Holderness Distinguished Medical Scholars Program. He completed his orthopedic residency at the University of North Carolina. After that, he was selected for a Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York (ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the #1 orthopedic hospital in the nation), where he received the Resident Research Presentation Award.

Dr. Jernigan has authored numerous scientific articles and has presented his research at medical conferences at both local and national levels. He is the Orthopaedics Representative on the UNC Housestaff Council. His interests also include humanitarian and volunteer work.
