Dr. Tyler Steven Watters Implants First Ever Smart Orthopaedic Device In North Carolina

May 12, 2022 | Tyler Steven Watters, MD

Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic is excited to announce that Dr. Tyler Steven Watters, a Raleigh Orthopaedic physician specializing in total joint replacement, became the first surgeon in North Carolina to implant a smart orthopaedic device the Persona IQ® smart knee implant. Sensor technology within the implant records and wirelessly transmits a wide range of gait data including step count, walking speed, stride length, and calculated range of motion. This advanced, state-of-the-art technology allows the patient to track their progress during recovery and take a more personalized and active role in their rehabilitation.

The long-term data collected by the implant is securely delivered to a HIPAA compliant cloud-based platform and can be accessed by the patient and the surgeon. Persona IQ® will work together with mymobility® by Zimmer Biomet, an intuitive remote care management platform that tracks pre- and post-operative mobility metrics. Persona IQ® is the world’s first and only smart knee implant granted De Novo status by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for total knee replacement surgery.

Raleigh Orthopaedic is proud to offer this new, innovative technology to our patients.
