Dr. Watters attended Pepperdine University, where he was a National Merit Scholar and graduated with honors. He then attended Duke University School of Medicine, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and received numerous awards. Dr. Watters also completed his surgical residency training at Duke University Medical Center. After residency, Dr. Watters went on to complete an adult reconstruction fellowship at Colorado Joint Replacement, the premier hip and knee replacement center in Denver, Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region.
Dr. Watters specializes in adult reconstructive joint replacement surgery, focusing on total hip replacement, total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, and revision surgery. Dr. Watters is skilled in multiple approaches for total hip replacement, including the direct anterior approach, an alternative approach to conventional hip replacement surgery that potentially allows for faster recovery. In addition to joint replacement surgery, Dr. Watters performs arthroscopic surgery of the knee for sports injuries. Dr. Watters also has a dedicated interest in periprosthetic and lower extremity fractures.
Dr. Watters has authored numerous research publications in many of the top journals in orthopaedic surgery, including the Journal of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, The Journal of Arthroplasty, Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, and The Bone & Joint Journal, among others. Dr. Watters is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
