MOVEmber – Time to Get Moving!

Written by: Dawn Stanton, MA, PAPHS

November or MOVEmber has become a time to focus on men’s health.  According to the Movember Foundation, men are dying, on average, six years younger than women.  And a large number of those deaths are preventable.

One way men are encouraged to support men’s health awareness is to grow a moustache during the month of November.  If fabulous facial hair is not on your agenda CORE encourages men and women alike to MOVE more during MOVEmber.

The CDC recommends adults get at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate exercise a week.  That’s 30 minutes, 5 days a week.  Adults should also complete moderate to high intensity muscle strengthening exercises at least 2 times per week.  There are many ways to get exercise into your daily routine.

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
  • Walk or bike whenever possible.
  • Meet with a fitness specialist to learn get the most effective workout in the time you have available.
  • Join a class to include a social aspect to your workout.

CORE at Raleigh Orthopaedic offers many options to get you moving for MOVEmber.  Get moving with CORE and any of our group classes as well as our personal fitness sessions.  If you want to begin walking or learn about how to exercise with arthritis, contact our CORE team to learn more.
