March is National Athletic Training month and the theme for this year is “Compassionate Care for All”. To me, this is a very accurate theme for Athletic Trainers because we work in such a variety of fields and impact so many different patients. Athletic Trainers are employed everywhere from high school/college/professional sports teams, to physical therapy clinics/doctors office and even performance groups such as Cirque Du Soleil. Athletic Trainers are nationally certified and state licensed medical professionals who oversee the diagnosis, treatment, and care of orthopedic injuries.
At Raleigh Orthopaedic we employ Athletic Trainers to serve in many different roles from Therapy Aides, to Work Conditioning Specialist, and Clinical Assistants to Orthopedic Doctors and Physical Therapists. We also are very involved in providing sports medicine coverage in the community, working at events from marathon/half marathon/5Ks to youth and high school athletics. Recently Raleigh Ortho has added the Mobile Care Unit to our sports medicine outreach and has allowed us to offer complete care in more locations than ever before.
Our Mobile Care Unit is a fully functioning Athletic Training room delivered by way of a converted 40 foot bus. It has allowed us to reach and interact with more patients and athletes due to the availability of care, right onsite. By having a clinic that can be delivered to any location we are able to offer our therapy to anyone, anywhere! Some of the treatments we offer are Lightforce Laser Therapy, dry needling, kinesiology taping, IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization), Recovery Boots (for decreasing muscle soreness following a run or workout!), ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, manual therapy, first aid, athletic taping, and many other treatments.
Being able to be more active in the community and offer medical coverage and injury screens is very rewarding for the Athletic Trainers who work events. We are able to interact with more people, in more settings, and offer more treatments than we were before. All of our Athletic Trainers are very excited to continue our work and helping people live more pain free and healthy lifestyles.
If you would like to have our Mobile Care Unit at an event you are hosting or attending, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 919-863-6976.
