The study, “Porous-Coated Metaphyseal Sleeves for Severe Femoral and Tibial Bone Loss in Revision Total Knee Arthroplasty,” was conducted by Dr. Watters and his colleagues at the Colorado Joint Replacement Center to evaluate the midterm results of stepped, porous-coated metaphyseal sleeves in revision TKA in the setting of severe bone loss. This large retrospective series illustrates the utility of porous metaphyseal sleeves in revision TKA with a low rate of intraoperative complications, excellent osteointegration, and long-term fixation. Dr. Watters specializes in adult reconstructive joint replacement surgery, focusing on total hip replacement, total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, and revision surgery. Dr. Watters is skilled in multiple approaches for total hip replacement, including the direct anterior approach, an alternative approach to conventional hip replacement surgery that potentially allows for faster recovery. In addition to joint replacement surgery, Dr. Watters performs arthroscopic surgery of the knee for sports injuries. Dr. Watters also has a dedicated interest in periprosthetic and lower extremity fractures.
Dr. Watters has authored numerous research publications in many of the top journals in orthopaedic surgery, including the Journal of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, The Journal of Arthroplasty, Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, and The Bone and Joint Journal, among others. Dr. Watters is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
