Dr. Tyler Watters Lead Author for Article Published The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery

Tyler Steven Watters, MD of Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic is the lead author on the article “Total Knee Arthroplasty after Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction” published in The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (JBJS), the most valued source of information for orthopaedic surgeons and researchers for over 125 years and is the gold standard in peer-reviewed scientific information in the field.

Dr. Watters collaborated with his colleagues at the Colorado Joint Replacement to compare operative characteristics and early outcomes of patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. The results of this study suggest that knee replacement after prior ACL surgery is a more complex procedure and may require special techniques by the surgeon. Nonetheless, patients in the study that underwent knee replacement for arthritis after prior ACL reconstruction had functional outcomes and pain relief that were equal to that of the control group. Dr. Watters specializes in adult reconstructive joint replacement surgery, focusing on total hip replacement, total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, and revision surgery. Dr. Watters is skilled in multiple approaches for total hip replacement, including the direct anterior approach, an alternative approach to conventional hip replacement surgery that potentially allows for faster recovery.

Dr. Watters has authored numerous research publications in many of the top journals in orthopaedic surgery, including the Journal of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, The Journal of Arthroplasty, Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, and The Bone & Joint Journal, among others. Dr. Watters is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
