Raleigh Orthopaedic
Kids ROC!

In 2011, Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic expanded our Pediatric Service Unit. Our West Raleigh office now serves as our Pediatric Center, and this office is staffed with two full-time fellowship trained pediatric orthopedists, Dr. Keith Mankin and Dr. Neil Vining,  and a nurse practitioner, Jeanne Hall, FNP. In addition, we also offer Pediatric Therapy Services. We have a full-time pediatric therapist with advanced training in development and sports-related pediatric orthopaedic conditions.

At Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic, we understand managing the care for a child is different from the adult, which is why we created the "Kids ROC" Program. This program is designed to streamline access and communication with our Pediatric Service Unit to provide you with the highest quality of pediatric orthopaedic care available.  To further expedite care, we implemented a dedicated phone line to create a more efficient appointment process for our pediatric patients. This phone line can be used to schedule primary visits and follow-up appointments.

Kids ROC Frequently Asked Questions

 What ages do you see?
We will see any patient referred by a pediatrician or family practitioner. We will see newborns up to, in general, 18 years old. In some circumstances, such as spine or chest deformity and sports medicine issues, as well as some hip conditions, we will see individuals through college age.

What types of problems do you see and treat?
Both of the doctors at KidsROC are fellowship trained in pediatric orthopaedics. As a result, they have experience and expertise in all musculoskeletal conditions, from the base of the skull down to the tips of the toes. We will see all developmental abnormalities of the limbs, hip problems and foot deformities. We treat all pediatric spinal conditions including scoliosis and low back pain. We evaluate and treat walking problems and neuromuscular conditions such as cerebral palsy or strokes. All of our providers have extensive experience in sports medicine, especially in the growing athlete, so we will see injuries and overuse conditions such as tendinitis or strains as well.

Are there any problems you will not see?
We will gladly evaluate any child and if that child has needs beyond our areas of expertise we will refer them to the appropriate provider. We generally do not treat arthritis except juvenile diseases such as JRA. We may refer complex hand deformities to our upper extremity team.

Do the KidsROC providers accept Medicaid patients?
We accept all forms of insurance, including Medicaid, without restrictions. We also participate fully, as do all ROC providers, in Wake County Project Access.

Does ROC have pediatric physical therapy?
Yes, we do. Our specialized therapist, Jennifer Marsh, works at a dedicated pediatric therapy gym and provides state of the art therapy services for the full range of children and adolescent musculoskeletal conditions. In addition, we are organize pediatric specific programs in core training and strengthening as well as gait and balance for early walkers.

What if my child is injured after regular office hours?
Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic has a fully-staffed After Hours Urgent Care Clinic weeknights until 9:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Staffed by a nurse practitioner or physician's assistant, the clinic is supervised by Raleigh Orthopaedic physicians, who are available to consult on your child's care at any time.

What hospital facilities do you use?
As pediatric specialists, we feel strongly that your child should have specialty trained care in all aspect of medical treatment. For that reason, we are proud to be the pediatric orthopaedists at the new WakeMed Children's Hospital, and do most of our elective treatment at that facility in conjunction with the pediatric medical pediatric surgical staff. We also have privileges at Rex Hospital for older children or if there are insurance restrictions.
