Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic Awards Scholarships to Local High School Students

Raleigh, N.C. (May 20, 2010)- For the seventh consecutive year Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic (ROC) has awarded students at six area high schools with scholarships in recognition of National Athletic Trainers Month.  Six graduating seniors received $500 each.  The students were selected by the athletic directors and head athletic trainers on criteria including exemplary academic performance and dedicated volunteer service to the sports medicine program.

All students at each high school were eligible to receive one of six $100 scholarships. The students were selected for career aspirations in athletic training or the sports medicine field, exemplary academic performance and dedicated volunteer service to the sports medicine program.

Broughton High School athletic director Jack Spain, head athletic trainer Aaron Minger, and ROC physician Dr. Wallace F. Andrew presented $500 to senior Evan Rakovan.

Garner High School athletic director Dwight Harrell, head athletic trainer Michael Guerrero, and ROC physician Dr. Lyman S.W. Smith presented $500 to senior Jacob Faircloth and $100 to Allyson Maynard.

Knightdale High School athletic director Guy Blough, head athletic trainer Brian Boadwine, and ROC physician Dr. Matthew T. Boes presented $500 to senior Meghan Minori and $100 to Sarah Gilleband.

Millbrook High School athletic director Scott McInnes, head athletic trainer Shannon Poole, and ROC physician Dr. Robert T. Wyker presented $500 to senior Katherine Sholtis and $100 to Caitlin O’Connell.

Sanderson High School athletic director Bob Catapano, head athletic trainer Christie Clem, and ROC physician Dr. David W. Boone presented $500 to senior Hannah Mitchell.

Southeast Raleigh High School athletic director Gary Powers, head athletic trainer Ryan Hahner, and ROC physician Dr. Keith P. Mankin presented $500 to senior Lance Dunn and $100 to Ryan Griffin.

Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic provides sports medicine services to each of the high school’s athletic programs and awards scholarships and savings bonds to support and promote the sports medicine programs at each affiliated high school.  Raleigh Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Specialist, a division of Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic, provides rehabilitation services and programs for injured athletes at the high schools.
