Dr. William Marty Isbell to Speak at the North Carolina Medical Society's 40th Annual Sports Medicine Symposium

Raleigh, NC (July 7, 2010) - William Marty Isbell, M.D. of Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic and team physician for the Carolina Hurricanes will speak at the North Carolina Medical Society’s 40th Annual Sports Medicine Symposium.  The conference, to be held at the Holiday Inn Resort in Wrightsville Beach from July 23-25, 2010, is intended to provide a review and update on various athletic problems encountered by physicians, athletic trainers, therapists and other medical professionals involved in the prevention, diagnosis, non-operative treatment and management of injuries and other concerns related to physical activity and sports. This year’s symposium features timely presentations on such critical issues as concussion management, pre-participation examinations, AED usage and life-threatening conditions faced by athletes. Dr. Isbell was selected to address non-traumatic shoulder pain in the athlete.

“It is an honor to be invited to share my expertise with my peers,” says Dr. Isbell. “The conference is an opportunity to talk about the current and relevant issues in Sports Medicine in North Carolina. It’s also a great opportunity to meet and network with other physicians, trainers, and ancillary staff that takes care of athletes across the state.”

Dr. Isbell has extensive training in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee with an emphasis on advanced arthroscopic techniques.  Prior to joining Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic in 2004, Dr. Isbell, a native of Tennessee, completed his undergraduate degree and medical school at East Tennessee State University, and his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.  Following his residency, Dr. Isbell completed a prestigious sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York under the direction of Dr. Russell F. Warren. Dr. Isbell served as an Assistant Team Physician for the New York Giants, and since 2006, Dr. Isbell has served as the head team orthopedist for Carolina Hurricanes National Hockey League.
