Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic's Athletic Performance Center Raises $12,000 for the Kids 'N Community Foundation

Raleigh, N.C. (June 29, 2011) - Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic’s Athletic Performance Center announced today that their first bike challenge raised $12,000 for the Kids ‘N Community Foundation, which is a non-profit organization offering programming assistance and financial funds to assist local area youth organizations.

On Friday, June 24 through Saturday, June 25, 2011, eleven teams and 110 participants competed in the 24-hour Bike Challenge at the Athletic Performance Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. Each team was required to have at least four team members, and one team member must be riding the bike during the entire 24-hour challenge. In addition, each rider donated or fundraised a minimum of $75. The top fundraiser generated $1,500 in donations. The event sponsors included: Baker Roofing, Southern Crane, Canvas on Demand, Linda Craft & Team Realtors, Chick-Fil-A of Wake Forest, Rudino’s Sports Bar, Excel Moving and Storage, Freshpoint, Greg Festa, DDS, and Fitness Nutrition. "The generous support of community partners, like the Athletic Performance Center and the generous event sponsors, allows the Kids ‘N Community Foundation to increase fundraising and ultimately have a greater impact on the lives of children and their families in our community,” said Doug Warf, Executive Director of the Kids ‘N Community Foundation. “We are grateful for not only the donations made by the riders but also for each team’s mental toughness and dedication that is required to successfully host a 24-hour fundraising event.” 

“Thanks to the support of the participants, the Hurricanes players, sponsors, and volunteers, this event was a huge success,” said Jaime Holt, Physical Therapist at theAthletic Performance Center. “We are honored to have the opportunity to partner with an organization that gives so much back to the youth in our community.”

About the Kids N’ Community Foundation
As “The Heart of the Carolina Hurricanes,” the Kids ‘N Community Foundation offers programming assistance and financial funds to assist local area non-profit organizations improve the health, education, and underserved population needs of children in our community. Since the establishment of the Foundation in 1997, over $9 million in cash and in kind services has been awarded to organizations that focus on enhancing the lives of the youth in our community. During the 2010-11 season, the Kids ‘N Community Foundation donated $539,771 in cash grants to 71 different non-profit children’s charities and foundations across the state.  Funds raised from the APC Bike Challenge will be recycled into Kids ‘N Community Foundation grant funds, which will be awarded to qualifying non-profit organizations in fall 2011.
