Dr. Callaway Selected as the Team Physician for USA Men’s Hockey Team

Raleigh, N.C. (March 28, 2011) – Hadley Callaway, M.D. of Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic was selected to serve as the head team physician for the USA Men’s Hockey Team for the 75th International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships. The tournament will be held in Bratislava and Košice, Slovakia on April 29- May 15, 2011.  The IIHF World Championships are used to determine which nations qualify for the hockey competition in the Olympic games.

The players are drawn from the National Hockey League and professional leagues in Russia and Europe.  Participating nations include Canada, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Czech Republic Slovakia, Switzerland Slovenia, Belarus, France, Austria, Latvia, Denmark, Russia and the United States.

Dr. Callaway is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, shoulder, knee & arthroscopic surgery.  He was a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He graduated with honors from Harvard Medical School.  He trained in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine at the renowned Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.  He has been a team physician for the NY Giants, the NHL Carolina Hurricanes, and the 2005 IIHF World Championships.  He is past-president of the North Carolina Medical Society and the Wake County Medical Society.  He has been chief of orthopaedic surgery at both Rex Hospital and WakeMed, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
