Dr. Leonard Nelson specializes in spinal disorders, in which he is board-certified and fellowship-trained.   He joined Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic in 1990.  Dr. Nelson evaluates and treats patients with a wide variety of middle and lower back anomalies on a referral basis.  His range of surgical expertise includes laminectomies, decompressions, fusions and minimally invasive spinal fusions, (performed in conjunction with various area neurosurgeons).  He has also received training in artificial lumbar disk surgery.

What's New in Spine Surgery

Dr. Nelson teams up with Neurosurgeon, Dr. Ken Rich, to offer patients a minimally invasive spinal surgery. The XLIF (eXtreme Lateral Interbody Fusion) procedure can be used to treat disc degeneration, spondylolisthesis and degenerative scoliosis.
