Flat Feet
What are flat feet?
Flat feet is a medical condition in which the arch of the foot collapses with the entire sole of the foot, If you have flat feet, the arch on the inside of your feet is flattened, coming in complete or near-complete contact with the ground.
Causes:
• Wearing high heels for long period of time
• Obesity
• Diabetes
• Rheumatoid arthritis
Signs and Symptoms:
• A flat look to one or both of your feet
• Uneven shoe wear and collapse of your show toward the inside of your flat foot
• Lower leg pain and back pain
• Pain and swelling along the inside of your ankle
• Difficulty moving your heel
• Foot pain
Treatment:
• Rest
• Ice
• Compression
• Elevation
• Make shoe modifications
• Use orthotic devices or use of a brace
• Anti-Inflammatory Medications
When to visit an orthopedist?
You should visit an orthopedist if you experience pain with prolonged standing, if you have difficult moving your heel or midfoot around, or standing on your toes, or if your pain reduces your ability to participate in sports.
