An important part of the Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic healthcare team is the Nurse Practitioners (NP's). Nurse Practictioners are advanced practice nurses with graduate, advance education and clinical training beyond their registered nuse preparation. These licensed health professionals practice medicine under the supervision of the ROC physicians and perform many of the same functions. They conduct patient examinations, diagnose conditions, develop and carry out treatment plans, order and interpret laboratory tests and x-ray studies, apply braces and splints, assist in surgery, provide preventive health care counseling and write prescriptions.
At ROC, nurse practitioners assistants each have an assigned supervising physician. With their guidance, the nurse practitioner's provide a wide variety of health care services. As part of the physician/NP health care team, a nurse practitioner exercises autonomy in diagnosing and treating orthopaedic conditions and injuries.
The NP's at Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic have certification in a broad range of areas including primary care and surgery.
