Raleigh Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Specialists (RORS)
Industrial Rehabilitation Services
The Industrial Rehabilitation Program provides comprehensive services for injured employees from acute injury to return to work. We utilize a team approach to treat injured workers with the goal of returning every worker to the workplace as a productive employee. We offer the following services:
Acute Injury Care - The injured employee is cared for by a team of professionals including orthopedists, physiatrists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, athletic trainers and exercise physiologists.
Return to Work Testing - Return to Work Tests are available to the physician and employer to determine valid restrictions and recommendations for the injured employee to return to work safely. Testing includes a repetitive motion test and dynamic lifting evaluation. Test results are available immediately to the employer, employee and physician.
Functional Capacity Evaluations - Comprehensive tests utilized to determine the injured employee’s ability to safely return to work with or without job restrictions. The FCE process is helpful in documenting functional deficits, consistency of effort, inappropriate illness behavior, attitude, possible further interventions and need for vocational counseling.
Work Conditioning - A daily program that takes up where traditional physical therapy ends. This is indicated when the injured worker no longer needs hands-on treatment but is not capable of returning to work. The program includes cardiovascular fitness training, flexibility and strengthening exercises. Activities are comparable to the job tasks needed for the patient to return to work safely with reduced risk of reinjury and ability to be productive in the workplace.
Job Site Evaluations - Job Site Evaluations are beneficial in determining the physical demand level of the job, making suggestions for modifications and identifying job tasks that can be performed within specific restrictions. They are also beneficial in retraining the worker to prevent re-injury and improve work habits.
On-Site Workplace Training - On-Site Workplace Training services assist employers with injury prevention. The program includes assessment of the workplace, workstation set-up and ergonomic principle basics, information on basic anatomy and injury processes and exercise instruction to overcome area of musculoskeletal stress incurred due to the nature of the job. Training is specific to the employer and emphasizes the responsibility of both employer and employee in maintaining a safe work environment.
Post-Offer Employment Testing - This comprehensive WorkSTEPS test includes objective measurements, musculoskeletal examination and computerized testing. Post-offer testing may be used to exclude employees not capable of performing job tasks as long as the test is not discriminatory, is job specific and properly validated. Post-offer testing is implemented to detect employees who have pre-existing conditions and/or is negated with the prevention of one carpal tunnel injury.
Fit for Duty Testing - This allows objective data to be collected to: determine an employee’s ability to continue to perform his job safely, identify cumulative trauma syndromes or disease processes which increase incidence with aging, and establish data to qualify legitimate injuries.
The WorkSTEPS Program - WorkSTEPS is a nationally recognized program that was developed to assist employers in hiring and retraining employees who can safely perform the physical demands of their job. The program offers a variety of testing protocols that are specific to the information needed and the job requirements. ROC/RORS became a licensee of the program in 1998 and we are proud to be a provider of this unique program. Features of the program include a vast and growing database of information and normative data that has been collected while testing thousands of job positions. ADA and EEOC compliance has been thoroughly examined and proven to be legally defensible. The inclusion of job-specific testing offers valid information on the ability of the worker to safely perform job tasks. WorkSTEPS allows the employer to be proactive in preventing injuries by hiring employees who will be safe in performing their job functions, providing instructions in lifting mechanics, performing ergonomic workplace assessments and assisting employers in providing timely and effective management of injuries when they occur.
