Hand Therapy Splint of the Month - July 2008

CMC splint
Purpose: To provide stabilization of the CMC joint which should decrease pain without limiting use of distal joints
Diagnosis: CMC Osteoarthritis, CMC Degenerative Joint Disease
Advantages: A metacarpophalangeal block may be added to splint when MCP joint hyperextension is present
Removable for hygiene
Increased comfort due to custom fit
Allows thumb MP flexion for performance of most pinching and fine motor activity
