Hand Therapy Splint of the Month - April 2008

Purpose:   To approximate the distal phalanx with the small proximal fragment in bony mallet injury, or to approximate the terminal tendon to its insertion point

Diagnoses:   S/P bony mallet injury

S/P extensor tendon rupture- Zone I, II

Advantages:   Thermoplastic splint is custom molded to patient’s finger for optimal fit.

Able to be molded into hyperextension at DIP joint and avoid any sensitive areas at dorsum of DIP.

Perforated material minimizes skin maceration
