Hand Therapy Splint of the Month - February 2008

Sarmiento forearm fracture brace
Purpose: To immobilize/support the forearm s/p fracture. Due to the circumferential nature of the splint the theory of Sarmiento fracture bracing allows the surrounding soft tissue to provide additional support to the long bone. If molded closely along the interosseous membrane, it can also limit rotation.
Diagnoses: Double bone forearm fracture
Nightstick fractures
Midshaft radius and/or ulna fracture following ORIF
Advantages: Lightweight
Removeable for skin care
Custom-molded for comfort and compliance
