Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are physician prescribed Braces, Diabetic Footwear, Foot Orthotics, Orthopaedic Shoes, and Prosthetics (Artificial Limbs) covered by my insurance?
A: Yes and No. Each of these prescribed items come under the category of Durable Medical Equipment in the Major Medical Coverage of your insurance policy; and coverage is specifically dependent upon each patient's insurance policy.
Q: How much will it cost me if my physician prescribes an orthopaedic appliance or prosthetic device?
A: Your individual insurance sets the fee schedule for the specific prescribed orthopaedic appliance or prosthetic device; and Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic contracts with your insurance carrier to accept their fee schedule. What determines your applicable out-of-pocket expense is based on your Major Medical Deductible; the amount of your Major Medical Deductible which has been met in the current calender year; and your precentage of Co-Insurance.
Q: What exactly does the cost of the prescribed orthopaedic appliance or prosthetic device include?
A: It includes your initial appointment in the ROC Orthotics and Pedorthics Department for evaluation and measurement; the time, labor and materials required to fabricate your orthopaedic appliance or prosthetic device; your follow-up appointment for fitting and delivery; a 30-day "Fit and Function Guarantee"; and, if required, any necessary adjustments or modifications for the first 90 days.
Q: What is the guarantee provided on orthopaedic appliances and prosthetic devices?
A: Since we use a variety of contracted central fabrication companies to fabricate our prescriptions, individual guarantees will vary with each manufacturer.
Q: Are custom-fabricated orthopaedic appliances or prosthetic devices returnable?
A: No. Just as an unused prescription is non-returnable to your local pharmicist; physician prescribed Braces, Diabetic Footwear, Foot Orthotics, Orthopaedic Shoes, and Prosthetics are non-returnable to the ROC O&P Department for credit. If there is a problem with the materials and/or workmanship with any orthopaedic appliance or prosthtetic device in the first 30 days, we will gladly repair or replace it under our "Fit and Function Guarantee" based on our staff's evaluation.
Q: Once I am measured for my orthopaedic appliance or prosthetic device, when can I expect to receive it.
A: Based on our current case load, the time between initial evaluation/measurement and delivery averages about two weeks.
Q: Do you see Orthotic & Pedorthic patients at any other ROC location other than the Glenwood Avenue location?
A: Yes. We also offer Orthotic & Pedorthic clinical services at our Durant Road (Tuesday Morning), Cary (Thursdays) and Garner (Fridays) locations.
Q: How do I schedule an appointment for evaluation and measurement?
A: Please contact Christa Clagon, O&P Administrative Assistant, at 781-5600 ext. 5307
